...for a prairie boy from an Edmonton suburb, moving to Vancouver in 1966 was an exotic adventure...a real city...weather was typical west coast October...dark, wet, mild...no sky to be seen but the trees were magical...lush, dark, glistening, sombre, watchfully waiting...at that point my life took a turn...the westcoast temperate rainforest...my first meaningful observation on a new path to becoming an artist.
Gordon Wallace studied painting at Emily Carr College of Art and began working in sculpture after moving to Toronto in 1979. He currently resides in Ottawa where he works in mixed media painting/sculpture
...working in painting thinking about image, composition, and creating depth in the frame....working in sculpture thinking about the surface of the forms and which colours, patterns, and textures they need.
Wallace works to create a reflective mood based on observation of natural forms and manmade symbols. His inspirations include Canadian topography, found objects, dreams, and mythological concepts.
